Ken Franckling, veteran arts reporter and freelance photographer based in southwest Florida, has focused on jazz since his stint on his college radio station starting in 1969. A founding member of the Jazz Journalists Association, he's been a staff reporter/news editor for United Press International, writing his column The Jazz Condition, for UPI for nearly 20 years; he's been a contributing writer / photographer for JazzTimes, Hot House, AllAboutJazz.com, Offbeat and has covered the past 41 Newport Jazz Festivals for a wide variety of publications.

Franckling is the author of Jazz in the Key of Light, a limited edition, 160 page fine-art photography book. He won the Jazz Journalists Association's Lona Foote-Bob Parent Award as Photographer of the Year in 2003 and 2016, and the ASCAP Deems Taylor Award for excellence in music journalism in 1987, essentially for his extended (4,000 word+) 60th birthday UPI LifeSize interview-profile of Miles Davis. He blogs at Jazz Notes.

This session of "Seeing Jazz" will be hosted by Hrayr Attarian.
