More about what I do:
I was born into a jazz house, and grew up listening, playing, and above all watching what it meant to live a life devoted to music, and particularly jazz music.
I am jazz a musician - originally a drummer, I have played and recorded all over the world. Often I play with my dad, pianist/singer Ben Sidran.
I am a record producer - I got my start producing albums for the likes of vocalist Mark Murphy and drummer Clyde Stubblefield. I have produced all of my dad's records since 2003, and have also worked on a handful of well regarded latin records. I co-produced the Oscar winning "Al otro lado del rio" for the 2003 film The Motorcycle Diaries; I also co-produced the Latin Grammy winning "Healer" album for Cuban singer songwriter Alex Cuba.
I am a recording artist. I have released seven solo albums of my original songs, and an album of all songs by Michael Franks. My records have been played on jazz radio, reviewed in jazz press, and featured on jazz playlists online.
All of that experience prepared me for my greatest passion: I am a jazz journalist! Since 2014 I have hosted The Third Story Podcast, featuring long form conversations with all kinds of creative people.
Not everyone I talk to is a jazz musician though most are. As of September, 2022 there are 230 episodes including interviews with older masters, younger players just getting their start, producers, label executives, presenters, composers, arrangers, recording engineers and more.
I have also produced various travel series and festival coverage (Copenhagen, Newport, Montreal, Umbria) as well as pieces on musicians living abroad, the impact of COVID on jazz, and more.
The Third Story episodes are often published on All About Jazz, and since May, 2022 it's made in partnership with WBGO Studios.
