My interests in jazz are:
I have produced and hosted a jazz radio show for almost 20 years. The current show is called, “Strictly Jazz Sounds” for WORT89.9-FM. I, along with my partner and co-host (a local jazz pianist/educator) have interviewed many of our jazz legends, including Geri Allen, Sonny Rollins, McCoy Tyner, Sonny Fortune, Terri Lyne Carrington, Richard Davis and Roscoe Mitchell. Two of our interviews were published by “Jazz Improv” magazine, Sonny Rollins and McCoy Tyner. I also do photography of jazz figures.
More about what I do:
We have returned to doing our shows from WORT studios! A challenging thing is that we cannot have live in-studio interviews, yet. I am spending a great deal of time on my segment, "Steve's Picks," an hour of all recently released or pre-released tracks/albums. I strongly believe that supporting living jazz artists is a must if we are to continue to breathe life into this art form. I am working on a podcast, hoping to have it up and operational by July 1. The format close to being finalized. My web page is under construction. I have a MA in Journalism and Mass Communications from UW-Madison. Today, jazz is my life!
I support the JJA because
Supporting JJA provides an opportunity to connect with other professionals in the field. Communication and networking builds a strong edifice for furthering jazz and jazz education. When we are better informed about jazz, our listeners and readers are better informed. JJA is just that vehicle to accomplish that goal.
